Based on its characteristics of high carbon content, spherical shape, and low cost, this material is primarily used in industrial fields that require high carbon purity but have relatively lenient requirements for material consistency (such as crystal structure or absolute purity). It serves as a functional additive or raw material.
Metallurgical Industry (Casting)
Application: Used as a carburizing agent. During the smelting of steel or cast iron, it is added to ladles, cupolas, or electric furnaces to increase the carbon content of the molten iron, meeting the compositional requirements for target steel grades or cast iron specifications.
Advantages: The spherical shape facilitates easy feeding and dissolution/absorption. The high carbon content ensures efficient carburization, and the material is cost-effective.
Refractory and Insulation Materials
Application: Serves as an anti-oxidation additive or aggregate. When added to carbon-containing refractories such as magnesia-carbon bricks or alumina-carbon bricks, it enhances the spalling resistance, thermal shock stability, and slag corrosion resistance of the refractory bricks. It can also be used to produce carbon-based insulation fillers.
Advantages: The carbon component effectively prevents slag penetration and oxidation, while the spherical particles contribute to optimizing the mix design.
Conductive Composite Materials
Application: Acts as a conductive filler. Mixed with matrices such as plastics, rubber, or resins to prepare antistatic materials, electromagnetic shielding materials, or functional composites requiring specific conductivity.
Advantages: Provides a conductive network at a cost significantly lower than high-end materials like carbon nanotubes or graphene.
Friction Materials
Application: Used in manufacturing brake pads, clutch plates, etc. As a carbon component, it helps adjust the friction coefficient, wear resistance, and high-temperature stability of the material.
Advantages: Carbon materials offer stable friction performance and help reduce wear on mating components.
