Silicon Carbide (SiC) is a high-performance synthetic material that combines ultra-high hardness, exceptional high-temperature strength, outstanding thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, good chemical stability, and the revolutionary characteristic of a wide bandgap semiconductor. It is not only an indispensable fundamental material in traditional industries (abrasives, refractories) but, more importantly, serves as a key enabling material for cutting-edge technological fields such as power electronics, new energy vehicles, renewable power generation, and 5G communications.
It empowers these fields to achieve higher efficiency, higher power density, smaller size, and greater reliability. Hailed as one of the star materials of the "third-generation semiconductors," the development and application of SiC are profoundly transforming the technological landscape across multiple industries.
Primary Application Areas:
Abrasives & Grinding Tools: Due to its ultra-high hardness, SiC is a core raw material for manufacturing grinding wheels, sandpaper, lapping compounds, cutting discs, and sandblasting media.
Refractories: Used in high-temperature kiln linings, furnace tubes, kiln furniture (shelves, setters, saggars), thermocouple protection tubes, etc., leveraging its high-temperature strength and thermal shock resistance.
Structural Ceramics: Manufacture of wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and high-temperature resistant components such as mechanical seals, bearings, nozzles, armor plates, and heat exchanger parts.
Semiconductor Electronic Devices:
Power Electronics: This is currently the hottest and fastest-growing field. Includes Schottky diodes, MOSFETs, JFETs, and IGBT modules. Widely applied in Electric/Hybrid Vehicles (motor controllers, on-board chargers, DC-DC converters), charging stations, PV inverters, wind power converters, industrial motor drives, UPS systems, rail transit, and smart grids to enable more efficient, compact, and lightweight power conversion.
RF Devices: Used in high-frequency, high-power applications like 5G/6G base stations, radar, and satellite communication.
High-Temperature Electronics: Used in extreme environments such as oil exploration and aerospace engine monitoring.
